Monday 22nd of March will be the 66th Anniversary of the crash of a Halifax bomber in Moordown. The crew of five were all killed taking three local residents with them. There is full eye witness account of this horrendous crash on the Winton forum website, written by Mr Russ Barnes who witnessed it as a small boy growing up in Moordown. It makes for very interesting reading and gives a picture , not only of the crash, but also of Moordown as it was then. How very different it was from now. As far as I know there is no memorial for the crash and the people that died at the time. and that is what we are proposing for the small plot of land at the junction of Brassey Road and Wimborne Road. the money for the garden has been set aside from the Local Improvement Fund and the money for the Memorial stone or Placque we hope to raise from public subscription.
If you know of anyone who was living in Moordown then and they have any memories of the crash please get them to reply to this blog.
